The War Z is an open world zombie survival horror video game developed by Hammerpoint Interactive. The game features both first person and third person shooting abilities, allowing the player to switch between the two. The game only offers players the option of playing against other users (PvP).

The game was released on Steam on December 17, 2012, with a closed beta starting in October 2012. The War Z was planned to be a single purchase. Users have access to the full game without having to take part in an ongoing monthly subscription while having the option of purchasing items within the game. The War Z was expected to have both dedicated public and private servers. The game runs on the Eclipse engine (not to be confused with BioWare's engine of the same name) made by Arktos Entertainment. On December 19, 2012, two days after the launch, the game was removed from Steam due to player complaints. It had the lowest score on Metacritic in the year 2012.
